Loving Where You Are When It’s Not Where You Want to Be

I get it. You’re twenty-something and you’re not where you thought you’d be at this point in your life. Join the club. No matter your age or stage in life, life has a funny way of laughing in the face of our plans. Fortunately, nothing in life is constant and change will soon come. Until then, here are a few things to remember as work you on creating the life you’ve always imagined.

Every Season Serves a Purpose

One of my favorite quotes, the idea that every season of life serves a purpose is one to surely keep you from feeling down in the dumps about your present state. Even though conditions in your life may not be ideal, you have to remember that everything happens for a reason. Everything that happens today is pathing the way for your amazingly bright future. So don’t feel down. Instead, feel excited about what’s in store for you.

You’re Learning

Another great thing about the transitional phase in our life known as our 20s is all the beautiful, wonderful life lessons. In fact, I have a theory that our 20s is one big life lesson wrapped up in a single decade. Maybe. But even if the lessons aren’t always easy, the point is you’re still learning. Learning what you like, what you don’t like. Discovering your passion. Finding your purpose. All those gems are hidden in the unique experiences that define our 20s.

You’ll Never Be Here Again

Sure life is setting you up for an awesome future and teaching you everything you need to know for the future, but that doesn’t mean all of your 20s should be spent looking ahead. There are plenty of things to enjoy and appreciate about your life that way it is, you just have to look for them. Maybe you want kids in the future, but you can enjoy the flexibility of a child-free life right now. Or maybe you want a high paying job, but you can still enjoy the lack of stress with your current job. No matter the situation, life is meant to be enjoyed and that includes life in your 20s. So celebrate the present, learn from life’s lessons and look forward to your future.
